Val Parks was born in New Westminster and has lived in the area all her life.
She was married for 47 year when her husband, Damon, passed away. She has been writing poetry since she was fifteen years old. She has published three books, Walking Along the Quay (a chapbook), Pathways and Wisdom of a Thousand Fools.
Her poems have been published in several anthologies.
